1.13th amendment-Abolished slavery and involuntary servitude except punishment for a crime In Congress it was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, and by the House on January 31, 1865.and was ratified on December 6, 1865, after the conclusion of the American Civil war.
2.14th amendment- ratified on July 9, 1868, and granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States,” which included former slaves recently freed. In addition, it forbids states from denying any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
3.reconstruction act 1867-providing for suffrage for male freedmen and military administration of the Southern states. The victorious Union, mainly Congress, felt that it was necessary to punish the former Confederacy before those states were allowed to rejoin the nation and have all their rights reinstated.
4. Impeachment trial 1868- it was the culmination of a lengthy political battle between the Southern democrat Johnson and the Republicans.Johnson was impeached February 24, 1868, in the U.s House of Representatives on eleven articles of impeachment with high crimes and misdemeanors
